Triple 8 is the working name for a vehicle to come after S.H.E.A.R Audacity and Triple 4. Currently in the trade study and early simulation phase, Triple 8 is a 20 foot tall 20 kN spaceshot capable liquid bi-propellant rocket. Designed to be funded by the winnings of S.H.E.A.R Audacity in the FAR Ten Cent Per Foot Competition, it would be one of the least expensive space shot attempts ever. Using self-pressurizing N2O IPA bi-propellant propulsion the extremely simple regeneratively cooled engine would propel the vehicle to Mach 6 speeds, achieving a target altitude of 130 km. Using active controls being developed by the Oregon State University Student Competition Rocketry Team, the vehicle would be kept upright, allowing for lower thrust to weight off of the launch rail, improving efficiency. Awaiting success of Triple 4, production in earnest will start on Triple 8. This puts a target of Summer 2026 for the start of production with a Summer 2027 launch.
